Explore the vibrant streets of Washington Heights and discover the Audubon Mural Project, a public art initiative created by the National Audubon Society and Avi Gitler, former owner of the Gitler & __ art gallery. This walking tour highlights murals of North American bird species that are threatened by climate change, based on a major scientific report by Audubon.
You’ll see works by both professional and street artists on roll-down gates and building walls throughout the neighborhood. Along the way, learn about the birds, the artists, and the project’s environmental message, all while exploring a part of Manhattan few tourists visit. You’ll also see the former location of Gitler’s gallery as well as the final resting place of John James Audubon in beautiful Trinity Cemetery.
Beth Goffe is a licensed New York City tour guide who enjoys sharing her love of New York City with her guests. Drawing from her extensive work with the Central Park Conservancy and decades as a New York resident, she offers fascinating tours that reveal the intersection of history, nature, and culture across the city's diverse neighborhoods. Her background in the corporate world and interests encompassing photography, theater, architecture, and natural history combine to offer engaging and interesting tours. An experienced birdwatcher, she has a unique insight into many of the birds depicted in the murals on this tour.

In-person tours may have limited capacity and are booked on a first come, first served basis.
But don’t worry! Sometimes spots open up closer to the event date if there are cancellations. We also repeat our most popular events when possible so you will have another opportunity to join us. There are also multiple other members-only events weekly that you can join in!
If you cancel more than 24 hours ahead of the scheduled event, you will receive a 100% refund. Please be courteous to your fellow Insiders and let us know if you can no longer attend so we can offer your spot to another person.
