We met the voices of the NYC subway on our nostalgia ride this weekend!
All aboard! Sunday, December 28th, is your last chance to catch the Holiday Nostalgia Train in New York City. This annual tradition from the New York Transit Museum brings festively decorated 1930s subway cars onto the tracks to spread some holiday cheer. Untapped New York Insider Robyn Roth-Moise was on the scene this past weekend to capture all of the creative outfits and vintage details of the trains. She even recorded a message from the voices of the subway, Charlie Pellett and Bernie Wagenblast!
The subway cars that roll out for this event are R1/9s. These cars were built for the Independent Subway System (IND) and were in use from the 1930s through the late 1970s. They feature rattan seats, paddle ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs, roll signs, and period advertisements.
The Holiday Nostalgia Train departs from 2 Av–Houston St on the uptown F line and 96 St–2 Av on the Q line. It runs from 10 am to 5 pm every Sunday in December. Check out the full list of stops here!
