MONDAY, OCTOBER 22: In conjunction with the centennial of John Cage’s birth, artistic director Petr Kotik and S.E.M. Ensemble, Inc present “BEYOND CAGE — John Cage at 100 / Music at 2012”, a festival highlighting some of Cage’s most significant works and his legacy in the music of our time. The inaugural concert is the Orchestra of the S.E.M. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24:FDR Four Freedoms Park opens to the public. FDR Four Freedoms Park has been forty years in the making, the last, unfinished design by architect Louis Kahn. The park is wi-fi equipped and visitors will have access to a multi-media digital resource about FDR and the park, designed with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25:Bruce Silverstein is pleased to present the gallery’s first show of the German artist Max Neumann. Neumann (b.1949) has exhibited extensively abroad over the past thirty years, but this marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York. Featuring new large-scale paintings as well as a selection of over-painted found photographs, this show presents a rare opportunity to see an extensive group of works by an artist who has been the subject of over 150 solo exhibitions since the mid 1970s. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26: Four Tet b2b Jaimie xx, Floating Points at Autumn Bowl, Brooklyn. From dropping underground anthems on labels like Domino and Ninja Tune and Numbers and Young Turks respectively, to redefining the very concept of pop, Four Tet and Jamie xx are two of the most influential artists of our time, period. In between new releases for both, the Red Bull Music Academy offers New York a rare opportunity to witness two of the finest producers and selectors on either side of the pond hit the decks for an extended back-to-back DJ set. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27: On Theodore Roosevelt’s 154th birthday, the American Museum of Natural History will officially reopen the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial and the Hall of North American Mammals, launching a year-long celebration of Roosevelt’s love of nature and his instrumental role in the American conservation movement, both inspired by his lifelong association with the Museum.
