This special one-hour guided tour tells the story of the last five decades of The Armour-Stiner Octagon House, during which it has been restored from near-ruin to its 1870s glory. Owner and preservation architect Joseph Lombardi once said that restoring The Octagon House was "like assembling a 500,000-piece jigsaw puzzle" – a task so overwhelming that many considered it impossible.
Visitors will be inspired by the magical details of this impeccable restoration: The discovery of original paint colors, the meticulous research, and surprises that revealed details about the families, and how the dome was saved from near collapse.
After touring the Octagon House with its knowledgeable guides, guests can take an exclusive sneak peek at the restored 19th-century Lord & Burnham Greenhouse. Jess Lombardi (daughter-in-law of owner Joseph Lombardi) will share a behind-the-scenes perspective–having witnessed the completion of several incredible restoration projects at Octagon House.
Directions to The Armour-Stiner Octagon House by train from NYC
From Grand Central Station, take Metro North [Hudson Line] to Irvington, New York. After exiting the train, walk straight uphill along Irvington’s Main Street, until you see a sign for The Old Croton Aqueduct (OCA) trail on the right side. Turn right and walk through the parking lot which leads to the OCA path. Walk south along the OCA path for about 1 mile until you reach West Clinton Avenue. You will see The House on the right side from the OCA path. The Armour-Stiner Octagon House is located at 45 West Clinton Avenue, Enter through the gravel driveway and a staff member will be happy to check you in for the tour.
Tours are conducted by highly trained guides and include both the exterior and interior of the home. Tickets are required for all guests, including those under the age of 18. This experience is best suited for ages 12 and up - babies and toddlers (although delightful) are not appropriate to bring along for the tour.
Free parking is available on site, along our driveway or in the circle in front of The Octagon House, but it is limited. Please do not park on West Clinton Avenue.
The tour is not recommended for individuals who will have difficulty walking up and down three flights of stairs or those who cannot stand for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility.
Please leave all large belongings at home or in a vehicle, including luggage, large bags, tripods, and other similar items. Picnicking is not allowed on the grounds or the veranda, and food and drink are not allowed inside the house. Please make plans to enjoy your meal at another location, and leave these items in your vehicle while on the property. Pets are also not allowed inside the house or on the grounds whatsoever.

Non-flash photography is allowed inside the house, and we encourage sharing your tour experience on social media. Tag us in your posts! The Armour-Stiner Octagon House can be found on Facebook and Instagram. Please refrain from using selfie sticks, tripods, or any other photography equipment while on the tour.

In-person Insider tours may have limited capacity and are booked on a first come, first served basis.
But don’t worry! Sometimes spots open up closer to the event date if there are cancellations. We also repeat our most popular events when possible so you will have another opportunity to join us. There are also multiple other members-only events weekly that you can join in!
If you cancel more than 24 hours ahead of the scheduled event, you will receive a 100% refund. Please be courteous to your fellow Insiders and let us know if you can no longer attend so we can offer your spot to another person.
