Take the 5: All about the Pets of NYC
This week's "Take the 5" podcast episode is all about the pets and animals of New York City.
The Who’s Your Daddy DNA Testing truck spotted on 117th Street and 1st Avenue
Can getting a DNA test be as swift and simple as walking up to a truck? Apparently so. Health Street , the testing company, uses two RVs to roam the streets of New York City, seven days a week for this purpose. Emblazoned with the conspicuous slogan, “Who’s your Daddy?”, they offer DNA tests to fathers suspecting that their offspring are not actually their own.
Jared Rosenthal, the owner and operator, explains that the privacy provided is inviting to clients. With cosy and comfortable interiors, the “Who’s your Daddy?” truck is far removed from clinical labs. It is this environment, he argues, that allows people to open up and share stories more so than they usually would.
While there are mixed reactions from the general public to the initiative, Rosenthal speaks very seriously about his work. By responding to silent needs, he is delivering an essential yet discreet service. The DNA tests cost between $299 and $575. They require a simple cheek swab from the father and child in question followed by a lab analysis. Within a matter of days the results would be ready.
The “Who’s your Daddy?” truck and Health Street run a variety of services. These range from post-accident immediate response testing for DOT-covered industries like airlines and airlines to drug testing and DNA testing for heritage and personal reasons.
