Made in NYC: Inside New York's Factories

Join photographer Christopher Payne for a behind-the-scenes look at some of New York City’s most fascinating industries. Over the past two decades, Payne has made a career out of gaining access to sites off limits to the public, creating stunning photo essays that reveal the beauty and complexity of everyday things we take for granted. For this presentation, he will show images from long term projects as well as ongoing work that has never been seen before. Trained as an architect, he is the author of several books, including Asylum: Inside the Closed World of State Mental Hospitals, a photographic journey through America’s abandoned psychiatric institutions, and North Brother Island: The Last Unknown Place in New York City, an exploration of an uninhabited island of ruins in the East River. His work has been featured in publications around the world and most recently in The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker.
