About this Event:

The Benjamin Royal Sonesta Hotel is turning 100, and you're invited to the kickoff party!

To open a yearlong centennial celebration, Untapped New York Insiders and Explorers are invited to The Benjamin for an evening of cocktails, city views, and fascinating stories. Your hosts for the event are Robyn Roth-Moise, great-granddaughter of the hotel's architect, Emery Roth, and Justin Rivers, Untapped New York's Chief Experience Officer.

The evening begins outside, where we'll admire the building's 1920s facade and envision the surrounding neighborhood when it was known as Terminal City, a development of hotels and office buildings constructed atop the Grand Central rail yard.

We'll then move inside and up to the penthouse suite for drinks and light bites provided by The Benjamin's onsite restaurant, The Parliament. As we enjoy our refreshments, you can view historical images and documents pulled from the Roth family archive and Emery Roth's papers held at Columbia University.

Outside on the terrace, we'll gaze out over Midtown Manhattan and see Roth's architectural legacy as Robyn points out buildings designed by his family firm throughout the 20th century.

Consider this the opening chapter as the celebrations will continue into the anniversary year, 2027. After this kickoff event, Untapped New York’s Art Deco Icons of NYC walking tours will cover a newly enhance route with additional stops, including The Benjamin. More events will be announced soon!
