U Thant Island: The Quirky Story of NYC’s Smallest Island
U Thant Island is located in the East River between the United Nations complex and Long Island City, named for the former UN Secretary General.
On the afternoon of Saturday, November 4, a rather curious site appeared in the Lincoln Center Fountain. The majestic fountain was churning out its regular show, except the water was a bright neon yellow.The Daily News reported that a prankster had thrown yellow dye into the fountain. Representatives at Lincoln Center, unamused, turned off the fountain soon after it had changed color at 1:00 pm, and swiftly called the police.While, what was described as one Instagram user as “gatorade colored” water, is all good fun and highly Instagramable, hopefully no damage was made to the iconic fountain.
