The Impossible Dream, a 60-foot catamaran currently docked at ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina, is making it easier for people with disabilities to enjoy amazing views of New York City from the water. The Impossible Dream is the world’s first and only universally accessible catamaran. The ship is currently stopped in Brooklyn as part of its summer 2019 tour of the East Coast. From now through Wednesday the boat will be sailing visitors around New York City thanks to various partners such as Disability Arts NYC, the Adler Aphasia Center, Wheeling Forward, United Spinal NYC Chapter and BIGVISION.
New York City is the 10th stop on the vessel’s Summer Voyage, a trip that will encompass 4,000 miles across fifteen different destinations along the East Coast from Florida to to Maine. The journey began on May 29th in Miami, Florida and so far this summer more than 1,000 people have set sail on the ship. At each stop, sailing outings are offered to people with disabilities, mobility impairments, life-changing illnesses and their families at no cost. Over the course of the voyage, the Impossible Dream has also welcomed disabled guest crew to live and work onboard for longer periods of time. The guest crew are invaluable members of the team who assist with the operation of the vessel, cooking, maintenance, promotion and connecting with the vessel’s day-sail guests.

ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina is a fitting location for the vessel to stop at on its tour. The marina, which celebrated its launch at full capacity in Spring 2019, is the only ADA-accessible marina in New York City. Part of the effort to open the harbor to the widest group of water enthusiasts possible was to bring the wave climate down and create one of the calmest basins in New York Harbor. This was achieved by a new wave attenuation system comprised of deep-draft steel barges.
