Celebrate the Everyday Places of NYC from Bike Shops to Bodegas
In the new book, The Cities We Need, a photographer and urbanist share images and stories from overlooked but vital city spaces!
It’s not quite finished yet but Brooklyn street artist Swoon (also known as Callie Curry) is putting up a Hurricane Sandy-themed piece on the Bowery Wall, a rotating outdoor wall space for art run by Goldman Properties. This work, which is getting a lot of buzz, is a collaboration between Swoon and local teens in Sandy recovery areas through the organization Groundswell New York. The official opening is this upcoming Tuesday, October 29th on the anniversary of the storm. Swoon has also worked in other disaster relief capacities, as the creator of The Konbit Shelter Project, which aims to create sustainable and resistant structures in Haiti.
Update: In September 2020, Groundswell partnered again with Goldman Properties for another mural here designed by Rafael Ayala.
