See Wildlife and Abandoned Islands on an NYC River Cruise
Sail past a seal hangout and keep your eyes peeled for migrating birds as you sail past historic bridges, abandoned islands, and iconic NYC sites!
Ever wanted to see how your brain thinks? Imagine following pathways of thought in real time, tracing these electric impulses across the walls of an immersive neon environment. Starting May 14th, ARTECHOUSE NYC brings this very experience to its Chelsea Market boiler room location. Visitors will walk through the stunning three-dimensional recreation of neural pathways surrounding them in “Life of a Neuron.”
This digital exhibition marks the eighth presentation ARTECHOUSE NYC has on view at their New York City location. Informed by neuroscientists as much as by the artists collaborating with the Society for Neuroscience (SfN,) the stunning, floor-to-wall immersive projection array consists of 20 minutes of interactive audiovisual installation surrounding the visitor with stunning, morphing imagery directly linked to actual brain activity as monitored and recorded by scientists. On June Tuesday, June 7th and Tuesday, June 14th at 6 pm, Untapped New York Insiders are invited to experience this breathtaking inside look at the complexity of the human brain for “Life of a Neuron.” Each tour is free for Untapped New York Insiders (with code JOINUS your first month of membership is completely free!)
Creative partners featured in the digital exhibition include Gil Castro, Simon Alexander-Adams, Emmett Feldman, Scott Pagano and Jose Pelz, who explore distinct aspects of brain function explored throughout the space. The creative minds shaping this digital exhibition have partnered with visionary in science who are thought leaders in their field. Scientists John Morrison, PhD, Dani Dumitriu, MD, PhD, Corrado Cali, PhD, William Janssen, Matt Wimsatt, MFA, CMI and Kristin Anderson, PhD all contribute to this stunning digital exhibition.
“Life of a Neuron” marks a decidedly intersectional lens on art and neuroscience, a first for ARTECHOUSE NYC and a thrilling ride for visitors ready to better understand how they grasp the world around them. In the past, exhibitions at the venue have included an exploration of visual art and historical data, and this visual approximation of the mechanics of human thought is the first immersive exhibition approximating brain chemistry presented in New York City.
Life of a Neuron at ARTECHOUSE NYC
Guests to this digital exhibition wander through undulating, oversize neurons firing off around and beneath them. A project three years in the making, specific portions of the exhibit traverse themes spanning vision, neuron connectivity, the effects of illicit substances on our neural pathways and a microscopy of how neurons process data. By fusing storytelling with tech and projection technology, this digital exhibition fires off at all cylinders, enticing and inspiring guests to think more deeply about how our brains function in real time. The first two Tuesdays in June, Untapped New York Insiders will be guided through firing synapses and interactive audiovisual experiences as part of our selection of exclusive tours free for Insiders – with code JOINUS, the first month is free for new members.
We have covered other physical immersive experiences and installations across New York City that give visitors a new perspective on the body’s movement in three-dimensional space, but this deep dive into the mind is an exclusive and innovative experience for guests touring ARTECHOUSE NYC’s immersive digital exhibition, “Life of a Neuron” in New York City.
From “Edge of Illumination” by SYNTHESTRUCT presenting light pathways illuminating the visual cortex in three-dimensional space, to the interactive “Eureka!” that examines how neurons connect to fire simultaneously, these light and sound experiences energize visitors and allow a new appreciation for the wonder of how our brain functions. “Imposter” presents a visual simulation of drug abuse, while “Eyes of the Science” replicates data processing while mimicking the pathways our brains utilize when active. Abstracted patterns of dancing light cavort with visitors interacting with “Life of a Neuron,” offering new perspectives on how we perceive the world around us and shining a light on the hidden realms of the mind.
