Celebrate the Everyday Places of NYC from Bike Shops to Bodegas
In the new book, The Cities We Need, a photographer and urbanist share images and stories from overlooked but vital city spaces!
Unless you’ve been out of the city for the last nine months, you’ve heard of The Cronut – a half croissant, half doughnut by Dominique Ansel Bakery. Having taken on an almost mythical aura (only 200 sold per day with group pre-orders rumored to have 30 day wait), the Cronut was bound to get some knockoffs. Reports of Cronut imitators have been spotted worldwide: the “Croissant Donut”in Manila, “New York Pie Donuts”in Dunkin’ Donuts South Korea, the “Dosant” in London:, the “Curlyssant” in Germany, the “Crescent Doughnuts” by Pillsbury. And now New York City-based Crumbs has revealed….The Crumbnut. We haven’t tried it yet, but do let us know what you think.
And amidst all of the frenzy surrounding the original culinary invention by Dominque Ansel, the man himself is busy staying one step ahead of the pack. He launched the Magic Soufflé at the Pier 57 shipping container popup last week and has teamed up with Shake Shack to produce the Cronut Hole Concrete, which you can get for one day only, tomorrow September 17th at 10 am at the Madison Square Park Shack. What is a Cronut Hole Concrete? According to the press release, “this collaborative concrete treat will feature Shake Shack’s dense, rich and creamy Butter Caramel frozen custard blended with three delectable Cinnamon Sugar Cronut Holes, and a bonus Cronut Hole on top.”
Chef Dominique will be on-site to greet fans and help serve concretes from 4 to 5pm. Total sales of the Cronut Hole Concrete will jointly benefit two non-profits: New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Widows and Children’s Fund.
